Proboscis Monkey River Cruise Tour @ Le Cruise De Kota Belud

Le Cruise De Kota Belud showcases Kota Belud's own wetlands, the nearest place from Kota Kinabalu where one can discover one of Sabah's icon, the proboscis monkeys. This place is still under reported compared with Klias Wetland near Pulau Tiga.

The cruise begins along the Tempasuk river where one will be reeted by the majestic view of Mount Kinabalu at the background and before long the sight of bouncy crowds of proboscis monkeys will engross river cruisers.

Le Cruise De Kota Belud

Le Cruise de Kota Belud is very near from Usukan Cove Lodge, estimated the road journey is about 30 minutes. However, if you coming from Kota Kinabalu city, it takes around 1 hour and 18 mins.

Kota Belud
It does not look like a tourist place or well developed as in other places. It is only a small village. I met them, the Iranun kids when they playing outside the house. It is one of the indigenous group in Sabah. For centuries, the Iranun were involved in pirate-related occupations. (but now no more)

They are well-known for their skills in weaving and producing brass bells. Traditionally there are three distinct type of design for their houses: Marigai (equivalent to a palace), Turugan (resthouse for guests), Kampilan (residence for higher hierarchy) and Ubung-ubung (ordinary household).(from: http://www.sabah.edu.my/itma018/Culture/Ethnic%20Profile.htm)

传统上他们的房屋有三种不同类型的设计:Marigai(相当于皇宫),Turugan(客人房间),Kampilan(较高层次人的居所)和Ubung-ubung(一般人户)).(来自: http://www.sabah.edu.my/itma018/Culture/Ethnic%20Profile.htm)

Pinjaram

We were served with Pinjaram cake upon arrival. It is Bajau indigenous group of traditional food which normally found in wedding ceremony, celebration and feast. It is made with rice flour, sugar and coconut milk. So it tastes sweet and nice!

Le cruise

When I went in front to take pictures, the friendly Bajau woman asked me to make one myself :) Of course I reluctantly to try it and do one....but the outcome is not guaranteed :P

Le cruise

Somehow I'm serious with it....no play play....learning to make a nice one :) Anyone wants to try my 'product'? :S

The pictures shown above is taken using my smartphone therefore they are unclear and we only allowed to stay on boat and can't walk into the mangrove forest.

I can't catch any great and clear image of the Proboscis monkey. But my friend, Munzir Alawi, writer from Santai Travel magazine who brought along a good camera and sharp lens able to capture very funny and playful act of proboscis monkey. Hehe so I asked for re-shoot from his camera screen so that I have something to share in my blog :)

Proboscis monkeys live in group. They are good swimmers. When they encounter dangers, they will swim..if you are lucky, you have a chance to see it. Our tour guide seen once! I must say he is very lucky. I never know monkeys can swim until he told me. =="

Village panorama along the cruise fascinates me. The local still remains their simple lifestyle.
